RockREMOTE Rugged Installation

Power Connection

RockREMOTE is powered by a DC supply providing between 10v and 30v. The supply should be capable of delivering 30W, although the consumption after startup is significantly lower.

The power supply should be connected to the power cable provided (or to an appropriate alternative) and connected to the RockREMOTE Rugged device via the supplied IP67 connector.

The supplied power cable has 3 conductors (Note: 2 possible colour code options):

PinColour (Cable 1)Colour (Cable 2)Connection
1BlackBlackGround
2WhiteRedDC Power In
3GreenBrownSleep control

Installing SIM cards

info

RockREMOTE comes with an Iridium Certus SIM card pre-installed as standard.

A Cellular SIM card can also be pre-installed if required.

Should access be required to remove or install a Cellular or replacement SIM the following steps should be taken:

  • Unscrew the 4 screws on the plain end panel (the panel without connectors) using a 3mm socket head screwdriver.
  • The gasket should be retained in the end panel. Take care not remove or stretch the gasket and keep it free from contamination.
  • Locate the required SIM card
  • To remove an existing SIM push the SIM inwards to release via the spring loaded mechanism
  • To insert a new SIM, orientate the SIM card correctly and insert it in against the spring loaded mechanism and release
  • Reassemble the panel. Carefully check the orientation (seal inner tab aligned with the PCB) and torque the screws to around 1Nm
  • Only repower the device after full reassembly.
info

RockREMOTE is compatible with mini (2FF) size SIM format

Mounting RockREMOTE Rugged

info

RockREMOTE Rugged is IP67 ingress rated. This means it is suitable for permanent mounting in outdoor locations.

RockRemote Rugged should be mechanically fastened to a bulkhead or pole using the mounting holes provided.

Connecting The Antenna's and Power cables

Step 1a - Connect the Iridium Antenna Cable

Ensure that the Antenna cable is securely connected using the provided Connector.

Customer provided cables should have IP67 rated TNC plugs.

In marine applications, additional protection should be provided to the metallic surfaces by wrapping with amalgamating tape.

note

Note that in order to comply with the Iridium certification the antenna must be mounted at least 1 metre above the ground or at least 1 metre above any metallic surface that could act as a ground plane.

If the device is being set up prior to installation it is recommended that a 50 Ohm RF terminator is attached to the Iridium antenna connector prior to the device being powered up

Step 1b - Connect the Wifi, GNSS and Cellular

Connect the Wifi, GNSS and cellular as required. Use SMA connectors with the appropriate level of environmental protection.

In marine applications, additional protection should be provided to the metallic surfaces by wrapping with amalgamating tape.

Step 2 - Connect the Power Cable

Insert the IP67 power connector into the DC Power port on the device and then switch on the power.

Step 3 - Powering Up

The POWER LED will show as soon as the power is switched on.

The STATUS LED will flash for approximately 1 minute as the device starts up. Once Start-up is complete the STATUS LED will stop flashing and become solid.

On the 1st ever Start-up sequence, no other LEDs will display unless a physical LAN cable connection has been pre-established to the device.
