YB Connect Quick Start Guide

Install the App

Allow Permissions

When installing the app, ensure you allow all permissions. Failure to do so may cause connection issues.


Connecting to Your Tracker

If You Own a Tracker (YB Owner)

  1. Activate Bluetooth on your smart device.
  2. Open the app. A list of tracker serial numbers will appear. Select your tracker from the list. (The serial number is shown on a label on the back of the device, e.g., YB3 20123.)
  3. When prompted, confirm that this is your tracker by selecting "Yes."
  4. Once connected, select "Enable Messaging."
  5. Enter your YBlog login credentials to sign in.

If You’re Using a Rental Tracker or as Crew/Guest (Non-YB Owner)

  1. Activate Bluetooth on your smart device.
  2. Open the app. A list of tracker serial numbers will appear. Select your tracker from the list. (Rental tracker serials are displayed on the QR code label on the screen and a label on the back, e.g., YB3 5575.)
  3. When prompted, confirm that this is not your tracker by selecting "No."
  4. Once connected, select "Enable Messaging."
  5. Create a new YB Connect account or log in with an existing username and password.

Only One Connection at a Time!

The YB3 and YB3i trackers support only one Bluetooth connection at a time.

If you’re unable to connect, another smart device may already be connected. To switch devices:

  1. On the current connected device, open the "Advanced Menu" in the app.
  2. Select "Disconnect from Device."

The YB Connect app will remember the tracker for future use.


Sending Messages

  1. Click “Send Message.”
  2. Add a recipient:
    • Use the plus icon in the top-right to select a contact.
    • Enter an email address or phone number manually.
    • For YBlog owners, select contacts under "My Group" to send messages to all.
  3. Type your message in the main text field.
  4. Press "Send" in the top-right corner.
  5. The message will appear in your Outbox briefly while the app connects to the tracker. It will be sent during the next scheduled transmission.

Receiving Messages

  • Messages are retrieved when the tracker transmits. These will appear in your Inbox.
  • To retrieve messages immediately, perform a Mailbox Check (costs 1 credit).

Mailbox Check

Performing a Mailbox Check allows you to send and receive messages immediately rather than waiting for the scheduled transmission.

  • Mailbox Checks cost 1 additional credit.

Buying Credits

  1. Go to “My Account” and select “Manage Credits.”
  2. Choose the number of credits to purchase.
  • Private Tracker Owners: Credits are also used for position reports. Make sure you account for this when purchasing.
  • You can enable automatic top-ups to add credits when at sea. Set a maximum monthly spend for control.
  • An internet connection is required to enable auto top-ups.

Cost of Use

  • Messages:
    • Messages up to 50 characters = 1 credit.
    • Each additional 50 characters = 1 credit.
    • Characters in email addresses and phone numbers are included in the character count.
  • SMS: An additional 1 credit per SMS recipient.
