Transmission Frequency
This drop-down menu allows you to set your tracker's Transmission Frequency
Calculating Credit Use
Each position transmitted from your trackers costs 1 credit. The table below shows the number of credits used in a 24-hour period at the different transmission rate options.
Frequency | Positions in 24hr Period |
---|---|
5 Minutes | 288 |
10 Minutes | 144 |
15 Minutes | 96 |
20 Minutes | 72 |
30 Minutes | 48 |
Hourly | 24 |
90 Minutes | 16 |
2 Hours | 12 |
4 Hours | 6 |
6 Hours | 4 |
8 Hours | 3 |
12 Hours | 2 |
When setting the Transmission Frequency keep in mind that:
- Shorter transmission frequencies cost more credits and use up more battery.
- Longer transmission frequencies are more cost effective and battery friendly, but may not send information back or receive messages as often as you'd like. You may have to rely on manual transmissions.
What Time Does a Unit Automatically Transmit?
The transmission frequency is based on midnight (00:00) UTC. If the tracker is set to 12 hour tracking, then it will transmit at 00:00 and mid-day (12:00) UTC. If the tracker is set to 8 hour tracking, then it will transmit at 00:00 UTC, 08:00 UTC, and 16:00 UTC.
Being in a different time zone or daylight saving time does not affect when a transmission is placed, it is always scheduled using UTC.
YB3 Users
When YB3s are not connected to external power, commands/messages are only received during automatically scheduled transmissions.
For example, if the tracker is set to 12-hour transmissions and you send a new transmission figuration at 08:00 UTC from the YBlog back-end, the YB3 will not receive that command and change configuration until 12 am UTC.
When YB3s are connected to external power, commands/messages are sent/received immediately.
YB3i Users
If you own a YB3i, and it is externally powered, commands/messages are sent/received immediately.
